The Revolutionary War 1775-1783
The Revolutionary War surged from the Colonists' frustration with the British government for forcing them to pay higher taxes even though they had participated themselves in the French and Indian War of 1754-1763. The British argued that the Colonist had required a service of protection during the war and therefore should help pay for the debt that remained. However, the Colonist argued that they did not need to pay and felt they were taxed unfairly; "no taxation without representation." Much of the clothing during this time period was imported from France and Great Britain. However, not very many individuals were highly wealthy. The average person had about 2 to 3 articles of clothing so much of there clothing would be reworn for days.
American Military Uniform
The typical American uniform consisted of a long under shirt that would serve as a sleep shirt at night and provide warmth during the day when they added other layers such as a long sleeve shirt. Men typically wore a knee length type of pant which were called breeches. Men would also wear a waistcoat with millitary style buttons along the front of the coat. Along with this men, would wear heels to appear taller and therefore more powerful or they would wear boots that reached just below the knee. As a form of socks, men would wear a set of tights to provide warmth during the cold days. Along with the uniform they would wear their three connered hat.
During the War there were other individuals who did not have much money and the uniform they wore was not the navy blue with red that was the typical attire. Usually, they wore homespun clothes with the similar set up only in much more dull shades and tones.

Great Britain Gown
During the 1780s, the design of the idea pary dress consisted of a cotton printed pattern with a large hem for when the women would wear a wire cage-like structure attached to their hips. It was also very common for women to wear a tight corset to under their dress. This particular dress is a gown and petticoat. It has a printed cotton and floral design. The dress also consists of "an open robe with a fitted back, and waist seem raised over the pointed back of the bodice." This was a very common dress for women during this era.
The women would typically wear a mop cap or if they had the money; women loved having piles upon piles of hair. Their wigs were usually white or gray due to the symbolism of wisdom and age associated with greatness. This belief was common to males and females.

Revolutionary War Children
Typically, boys and girls would wear clothing similar to their parents. For example, the boys would wear the breeches just like their fathers. They also had a tendency to pull hair back and tie with a band underneath the three point hats they wore. The girls would also resembel their mothers by wearing a mop cap and a long dress. More often than not, the dresses they wore were homespun with an apron front.
